Arts Week
Arts Week was so brilliant last week that we wanted to share as much of it as possible with you.
Every class had an artist that they focused on and were inspired by to create their own artwork.
For example R1 learnt about the artist Yayoi Kusama. They were inspired by her interactive 'Obliteration Room' that began with a white space where she invited visitors to cover it with spots of colour, so the children made their own!
R2 learnt about the artists Piet Mondrian and they created their own artworks inspired by his work.
4E were inspired by Andy Warhol and made portraits. First they had a photo of their significant individual and used a black pen to draw on top of the obvious features. They then traced these black lines onto a piece of paper that had a grid on it. This grid was copied on to a large grid on a piece of A1 card. This grid was cut up and numbered on the back so that they could rearrange it back to the correct place. Finally thay painted over the top using complementary colours.
5LM focused on the street artist Banksy. They looked at some of his most famous pieces of street art and thought about the hidden meaning in the graffiti work he does. They then created their own silhouette style artwork in groups and put them around the school. It really got some discussion going around the school as to where these peices of art had 'appeared' from (just like the work of Banksy!).
