TFL Travel for Life awards

This week TFL celebrated 18 schools in London with awards recognising schools working to deliver the activity, safety and environment goals of the TFL Travel for Life Programme.

Our Eco Warriors Victor, Emma and Karlie in Year 5 went to the TFL headquarters this week to take part in a celebration of all their hard work and that of Miss Bence this year. 

Dundonald was one of the top ten schools to receive the award out of 1500 across London.  The children had a great day learning how to present and persuade others to an eco way of thinking. 

TFL said: 

Dundonald Primary School has demonstrated an exceptional, whole-school commitment to active travel, sustainability, and personal safety, consistently achieving an active travel mode share of 86-87% through well-embedded initiatives such as Bikeability and balance bike training, Walk and Wheel, walking trips, and regular use of public transport for school visits. These experiences support pupils in developing confident, independent and safe travel behaviours from an early age. 

This strong foundation is reinforced through leadership involvement, pupil voice and meaningful environmental learning. Initiatives including Eco Warrior elections, Eco Pledges, the Eco-Schools Award, Earth Day and David Attenborough assemblies, the Early Years garden, and the Junior Citizenship Scheme demonstrate a deep commitment to sustainability and wellbeing. Practical learning is embedded throughout the curriculum, such as real-world road safety ;earning during educational visits, alongside consistent engagement with parents and carers. This nomination recognises Dundonald Primary School's inspiring, sustained impact in creating a safe, active and environmentally responsible school community.
