Dundonald Primary School has worked hard over the past few years to ensure that PE and Sport within the school is at the centre of promoting a varied and diverse sports curriculum. Working alongside local primary schools and with Merton School Sports Partnership (MSSP), we strive to develop and enhance the teaching and learning of PE and Sport in school as part of the curriculum and as part of the school’s extra-curricular provision.
Over the 2015-2016 school year we achieved the Gold Sportsmark Award from MSSP; we are immensely proud of this achievement. We have worked hard again this year and are hoping to reach the Gold Award for 2016-2017.

Supporting our efforts to reaching our Gold Award we have made use of Sports Premium funding. Details of how this funding has been used and its impact can be found in the ‘Sports Premium’ section in School Information.
We have continued to expand participation in competitive sport over the past year. We have initiated and attended regular inter-school competitions with schools in our area as well as continuing to run intra-school competitions. Throughout the year we have had regular House events, where children compete against one another as a culmination of the work they have done in PE lessons.
Children can participate in a range of extra-curricular activities at school. Some of these clubs are run by staff and others are run by local sports clubs or coaches. For a list of clubs in the area please see the link below.

To ensure that more children have the opportunity to represent Dundonald this year, we are monitoring participation in events more rigorously. A and B teams will represent our school in competitions whenever possible with a trial taking place before each event. Children are able to sign up in the week leading up to the trial with success criteria clearly explained to children. Attitude, performance and sportsmanship in PE and clubs are also taken into account when selecting teams. There are also a number of inclusive events which allows those children not selected for teams to compete in borough-wide competitions throughout the year.
